FOOD YOU MAY EAT
- Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Shellfish, Duck, Emu, Ostrich, Reptiles, Birds
- As a general rule, if an animal flies or swims, it will not have alpha-gal and is
therefore safe
FOOD TO AVOID
- Beef, pork, lamb, venison, rabbit, goat, buffalo, kangaroo
- This includes ‘alternate’ names of these meats such as veal, chitlins, pate,
luncheon meat, ham, bacon, scrapple, etc - Non-human mammals have alpha-gal and these meats should not be eaten,
including organ meats - The fattier a meat, the more likely it is to cause an allergic reaction (&
frequently more severe) - Some products made with
Food sources of iron for those with alpha gal allergy include:
- Legumes
- Enriched ready-to-eat cereals
- Whole grains
- Soy products
- Pumpkin and squash seeds
- Dried fruit
- Baked potato with skin
Zinc – non-beef food sources of zinc include:
- Legumes
- Soy foods
- Whole grains
- Fortified ready-to-eat cereals
- Nuts and nut butters
